I would guess that if Gusev plays it’s on the top 6. He doesn’t have the defensive capacity to play bottom 6. I think he’s another option in case they want Kerfoot for a 3rd shutdown line and maybe put Bunting on the 4th to give it some scoring punch. That doesn’t puts a lot on Robertson if they go that way. Anyway, it’s just a PTO and it’s just another option |

The Maple Leafs have hinted that they’re going to try out a defensive-heavy third line centered by David Kampf this season, meaning that the fourth line could be another offensive-driven line with someone like Jason Spezza on it. So you could stick Gusev there, too, if his offense doesn’t deliver as advertised. But even then, if he isn’t scoring, why would you use him in your bottom six when there are other options available who have a good two-way sense of the game? |

I hope it’s not another year of guys bouncing around the bottom lines, zero chemistry.

No I wouldn’t put Gusev on the 4th. If he’s not on the top 6, he doesn’t play. I could see Bunting on the 4th if they want some scoring there. Bunting could play in a few spots. I guess Robertson could play on the 4th as well. |

Our houseblogger mentioned 'with Galchenyuk gone'. |

Last blog:
With the departure of Zach Hyman, Nick Foligno and Alex Galchenyuk, GM Kyle Dubas is relying on Michael Bunting, Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase and possibly rookie Nick Robertosn to fill the rather sizable hole on the left side, but on Friday the club may have added some insurance by signing veteran winger Nikita Gusev to a professional tryout contract. |

If Robertson doesn’t land a spot or if he’s going to be in and out, I can see Gusev sticking around - assuming he doesn’t stink up his PTO |

Ugh. To be honest, I'd sooner put Ritchie on with AM34 and Mitch to add some muscle and pain on our top line.
Kerf... needs to get traded. |

Ya I hear a lot of Leafs say that about Kerfoot (traded).
He does provide speed, good defensively, can dig out pucks, decent skill…would be good fit up there for energy and what he brings. |
